Question by : I took a mental health quiz to see what’s been wrong with me, and it diagnosed me with bi polar II disorder.?
The treatment sounds like to take it I will need to be under close doctor supervision, but I don’t have a job to be able to afford this. Are there any services for mental health and people who can not afford treatment? I feel so embarrassed to talk about it. I don’t know how to tell my family and husband. I feel so alone and scared right now. I don’t know what to do.

First of all, you want to make sure that the quiz you took is reliable. Take a couple more quizzes to see if they all come out with the exact same answer. Here are some really good quizzes that will help:

The next step is to contact an agency or a resource that can help you. Do you have a doctor? If so, that would be your first stop. Talk to your doctor and tell him/her what is going on. However,if you dont’ have a doctor, you can still get help. There is help out there, and a lot of it is either cost free or very low cost. You might want to consider calling a hotline. The Stanley Foundation Bipolar Network can provide you with information regarding treatment and how to find help that you can afford. Here is their website: http://www.bipolarnetwork.org/ and their phone number is: 1-800-518-SFBN
You can also try calling 1-800-SUICIDE. Many people think that this number is just for suicidal people, but ANYONE with a problem can call this number. They offer free information about depression, bipolar, and most other mental illnesses.
If you can absolutely find no treatment in your area that is either free or low cost, there is still help online. Search google for Bipolar treatments. Self-help books are an option too. I have depression, and I have found that self help books help me the most. Good luck. I hope I helped. Email me if you have more questions!
Bipolar disorder is nothing to be embarrassed about at all. My mother and my best friend both have bipolar. They take a pill daily and it keeps their disorder under control. It’s very common, and it’s treatable. Don’t be scared at all. You should tell your husband first, afterall he is your partner in life and you should be able to work through any problems together. You should try to find a free clinic to go to where they can assess you. You didn’t mention your symptoms but symptoms with bipolar is typically mood swings, depression, things like that. If you don’t treat it, it could get out of hand and cause problems between you and others (whenever my best friend misses a pill, which happens often because she too can’t afford them, we get into a lot of fights because of her mood. So just try going to a clinic somewhere. Some colleges or universities have clinics you can go to for free but I believe the medication itself you will have to pay for. Look some options up in your local phone book. I don’t know where you are located otherwise I could be of more help. Good luck
